Launched by founder, Dominic Parmenter in February 2006, The Furniture Factory Outlet was conceived with one single aim in mind: to introduce a true 'clearance / factory outlet' retail concept to the mid to high & end solid wood furniture market. 'Discount' retailers claiming to offer knock-down prices on quality high street furniture are two-a-penny, and some do indeed offer genuine discounts and deals (usually cutting prices by up to 30% off the RRP). Many of these 'discounters' however are simply selling poorly made pieces constructed from flimsy, cheap wood, or other materials such as MDF which is veneered.
But for the avid bargain hunter - that increasingly savvy breed of customer prepared to scour the country for quality solid wood pieces snapped up right at the end of the sales, stashed away at the back of the showroom, marked down as a display item or cannily purchased on ebay - true 'bargain basement' furniture shopping opportunities have been few and far between. Until NOW!
Having worked for eight years within the burgeoning fashion branded clearance and factory outlet business (running clearance operations for brands such as Timberland, Paul Smith, Levis and Caterpillar) Dominic was amazed to discover that a similar concept did not seem to exist within branded quality furniture. If you want a cut-price designer jacket or a pair of sunglasses these days, you don't have to buy a fake - you can pick one up at a designer outlet Centre like Cheshire Oaks or at TK Maxx. OK, so it might be 'last season' or an 'over-run' - but who cares - you got the perfect jacket! But if you want a similar discount on a piece of branded, solid oak furniture - the same piece you saw in John Lewis / Laura Ashley or Next, for instance - where are you going to go?...The Furniture Factory Outlet!
"The great thing about premium, well made furniture is that it doesn't date in the same way as clothing," explains Dominic. "When buying, I focus on the quality of the piece, rather than on how quickly it will go out of fashion. I simply ask myself: 1) "Would my wife allow this in our own home?" 2) despite being categorised as a 'slight second' or an over-stock - "is this still a desirable piece to own?" and 3) if there is a noticeable flaw, can one of our experienced operatives restore it to its former glory? If the answer to all three questions is YES - I'll take it.
The Furniture Factory Outlet is exactly what is claims to be. Nothing more. Nothing less! Happy bargain hunting!
